Leadership of the past and the future

Feel the difference

The application of modern thinking in today’s working environment can double effectiveness.

This workshop provides simulations to allow the delegates to feel the difference between the management thinking of the past and that of the future.

Traditional management focused on the development of capital and the control of labour. It served us very well.

But the world has changed. It is the spirit, knowledge and creativity of staff, not capital, that is going to be the competitive advantage of the future.

Fortunately there has, over the past decades, been extensive research in the area of capturing the spirit of staff. It does however reflect a very different mindset from that which underpins traditional perceptions of management and leadership.

Feel the difference

Rather than simply teach modern concepts this one day workshop has been designed to give the opportunity to feel what it is like to be led in a traditional environment, in contrast to one that appreciates 21st century concepts.  The delegates are asked to participate in three simulations to vividly illustrate the differences between:

  • Traditional management – with its targets and budgets
  • Modern thinking that recognises the spirit and self motivation of staff
  • Modern management with its focus on dynamic continual improvement.

The purpose of this participative workshop is not only to provide a chance to “feel the difference” but also to converse with colleagues as to how modern concepts can be applied. How 21st century concepts can be applied to radically enhance profit, cost effectiveness, morale, customer service and innovation.

This workshop was developed from the original "Modern Leadership - feel the difference" workshop provided by Bill Bellows of Pratt and Whitney Rocketdyne (was Boeing) California USA.
